Wolfgang Gaag,
Wolfgang Gaag (born 1943 in Waldsassen) is a German horn player. He was a professor for horn at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich and is a founding member of the Ensemble German Brass. He is a recipient of the Medal of Honor of the Musikhochschule in Munich.
At the same time, Wolfgang Gaag studied sound engineering at the Technical University of Berlin and studied music at the State University for Music and Performing Arts in Berlin, majoring in horn with Alfred Gohlke. During his studies he was solo horn player with the RIAS Youth Orchestra and the Jeneusses Musicales World Orchestra. In 1969 he became principal horn of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and in 1980 he became principal horn of the Radio Symphony Orchestra of the SWR Stuttgart. He became a university teacher at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart[2]. In 1974 Gaag founded the German Brass Quintet together with his former fellow students Konradin Groth, Martin Kretzer, Enrique Crespo and Dieter Cichewiecz. In 1985 he was a founding member of German Brass.
From 1982 to 1996 Gaag was solo horn player in the Munich Philharmonic. Since 1993 he has been teaching horn at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts, from 1995 to 2008 as a professor. He is the leader of master classes in Germany and abroad and a member of the jury at music competitions such as the Jan Koetsier Competition[3] or the ARD Competition.
Wolfgang Gaag was a member of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra and is a member and co-founder of renowned chamber music associations such as German Wind Soloists, Villa Musica and Odeon Concerts. With German Brass he was the 2016 Echo winner in the classical ensembles category.
